Tapering Treatment

Overview

If a person is actually addicted to drugs, the physiology of their body and brain will drastically alter. That’s why, when attempting to avoid using an addictive medication, often people have withdrawal effects, especially in cases of lengthy or intense use, since their brain actually cannot really function properly even without influence of the substance.

Although some of those signs can be unpleasant, some can be life-threatening. This is particularly important in terms concerning addiction to alcohol, antidepressants and benzodiazepines.

At New Hope Rehab Center, we help patients to create approaches to recovery. We manage to backslide, recognize and adapt to any issues that may be causing anxiety, stress and depression may or may not be associated with drug abuse.

Treatments

  1. Antidepressants: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and other classes of antidepressants may require a tapering regimen when discontinuing treatment. This is to minimize potential withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, anxiety, or sleep disturbances.

  2. Benzodiazepines: These medications are commonly prescribed for anxiety, insomnia, or seizures. Abruptly stopping benzodiazepines can lead to withdrawal symptoms, including rebound anxiety, insomnia, tremors, or seizures. Tapering the dosage gradually under medical supervision is generally recommended.

  3. Opioids: When individuals have been on opioid medications for chronic pain management, tapering off the opioids may be necessary to reduce dependency and avoid withdrawal symptoms. This process is typically managed by healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and comfort.

The cost of tapering treatment can vary depending on several factors, including the specific type of treatment, the duration of the tapering process, the healthcare provider or facility you choose, and your geographical location. Without specific details about the type of treatment you’re referring to, it is challenging to provide an accurate estimate. However, I can provide you with some general information about the factors that can influence the cost of tapering treatment.
